Commercial Grade Locks
Commercial-grade door locks have a stronger and more durable rating as set by the Builders Home Manufacturers Association. There are three grades determined by the Association:

  • Grade 3 – These are standard door locks used for supply closets and doors not used by a lot of people.
  • Grade 2 – Grade 2 is the designation for standard door locks with higher security and for doors where more people enter and exit them.
  • Grade 1 – This grade is the strongest of the three and has the highest security. It is usually used for commercial purposes and in areas with a lot of people.

Various Types of Commercial Door Locks

Looking for the right locks without being familiar with them can be overwhelming. Here are some of the more common commercial door lock types.

  1. Cylindrical Lever Locks – Lever locks are one of the most common types of commercial door locks simply because it’s very easy to install and has a beautiful aesthetic. Cylindrical lever locks may come as either a doorknob or a lever and can be used with a key or a key and push button combination.
  2. Panic/Crash Bars – Panic bars are commonly used for fire and emergency exits. Instead of twisting the doorknob or lever, these locks are opened by pushing a handle or bar to disengage them and release the hatch.
  3. Keypad Door Locks – As the name implies, this type of lock does not need a physical key to unlock it. Instead, users are issued with their own codes to open these doors. They can sometimes have biometric scanners for increased security. They are regularly used in commercial settings like offices.
  4. Mortise Locks – These locks are used for heavy-duty security. They come with multiple disassembled components with many internal mechanisms that must be assembled in a specific way. Its complex design and construction make it more resistant to forced entry.
  5. Electric Strike Locks – These are electronic door locks that use an electric strike plate instead of a traditional one. Electricity is supplied to the strike holding the lock bolt in place until the release is activated. These locks can be combined with other types of locks available to disengage the plate. For example, panic bars and keypad entry locks can be used.
